The CBA strives for inclusive representation and prioritizes Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Indigeneity (EDI&I) in specimen and data collection. All staff have been completed the Principles of Ownership, Control, Access and Possession (OCAP™) promoted by the First Nations Information Governance Centre and is committed to working and learning with Indigenous researchers, such as UBC Cluster for Indigenous Engagement, Development, and Research (CIEDAR) and Indigenous communities, learning together about biobanking.

An Easily Accessible Research Resource – the Metabase: the CBA is looking to expand its catalogue and strengthen the country’s capacity to share resources and data. The CoVaRR-Net Biobank—now the Canadian Biobanking Alliance (CBA)—has led Canada’s preparedness biobanking efforts over the past four years. With ongoing support from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the CBA is focused on building long-term sustainability as Canada moves toward a national pandemic preparedness model involving public and private sector collaboration. Looking ahead, the CBA will expand its work beyond March 2025 by partnering with academic institutions, government agencies, industry, and other CBA sites. This transition will strengthen the country’s capacity to share resources, data, and ethical practices in biobanking, supporting ongoing research and public health preparedness.
