The CBA works in a trifecta that includes a biobank, data platform, and bioethics team to facilitate rapid research through the sharing of data, biological materials and pathogens to researchers, industry and public health.
The CBA Central Biobank, headquartered at the University of Ottawa, collects, stores and distributes longitudinal and comprehensive clinical data, specimens for pathogen studies, and biological samples for host responses and immunological studies. The CBA Central Biobank offers laboratory services to support researchers in sample characterization such as immunological assays (cellular and molecular), genetic analyses and serology. Specimens are collected from relevant populations of interest: uninfected, convalescent (i.e., recovering),vaccinated unexposed, vaccinated convalescent, immunized with different vaccine products, with hybrid immunity, etc. An array of specimen types are available, including blood cells, plasma, serum, viruses, saliva, research reagents, nasal swabs, and wastewater.
